We are a Southern Baptist church located in the heart of West Valley City. As a body of believers, we love our community and strive to serve them through relevant Bible study, vibrant worship, and outreach events that demonstrate our care for the people we serve. Jesus loves West Valley City, and so do we.
What We Believe: We believe the Holy Bible is the inspired Word of God and is the basis for any statement of faith. We support the doctrinal statement of The Baptist Faith and Message. We band ourselves together as a body of baptized believers in Jesus Christ, personally committed to sharing the good news of salvation to lost mankind.
As Baptists, we observe two ordinances:
- The Ordinance of Baptism — This church shall receive for baptism, any person who has received Jesus Christ as Savior by personal faith, who professes Him publicly at any worship service, and who indicates a commitment to follow Christ as Lord. Baptism obeys the Lord’s command for His followers to be baptized.
- The Ordinance of The Lord’s Supper — A symbolic act of obedience to commemorate the death of Jesus Christ and anticipate His second coming.
Our Values:
- Building Bible-Centered People — We value giving people tools to live a Bible-guided life. We are always striving to increase our knowledge of the Bible and how to live it in our lives.
- Worship — We value authentic, Christ-centered Biblical worship. We want people of all ages to worship God in a true meaningful way. We worship God in everything that we do by using the gifts that He has given us. Worship should not be emotion-based; it is done by implicitly putting the Bible and God into everything we do and limiting distractions.
- Relationships — We value being a Christ centered family. We strive to build relationships within our church body, including everyone and plugging everyone into our community of believers where they can use their God-given gifts. We want all members to participate in the church family by getting to know each other, participate in governing our church, and helping each other to grow in Christ.
- Gospel/Missions/Evangelism — Christ commanded us to go and teach and preach the gospel to every part of the world. This includes everyone, those who live here in West Valley City and continuing into every part of the world. We aspire to make a continuous effort to introduce people to a relationship with God, and continue to assist them to grow in a closer relationship with Him that never stops growing and learning, then encouraging those people to go and teach the gospel to others.
- Prayer — We believe that prayer is a central part of having a relationship with God. Prayer and reading the Bible is how we talk with God. This is why we strive to incorporate prayer into every aspect of our lives. The Bible tells us to pray without ceasing, both corporately and individually. We follow this direction by praying together when we meet, as well as encouraging others and teaching them how to pray on their own in their daily lives.
Our Affiliations and Connections: This church cooperates with and supports the Southern Baptist Convention, the Utah Idaho Southern Baptist Convention, and the Salt Lake Baptist Association.
Our History: This church was started as a mission of the Kearns Baptist Church in the Salt Lake Valley in the summer of 1959. It became a self-sustaining church the following year. Through the years, the church has started other new works as well as supported mission endeavors around the world. Our building has been constructed in four phases and a total of fourteen pastors have served the congregation.
